 JDRF and Annual general meeting on Saturday 27th March

Just a reminder that we will be holding our next meeting at 2pm on Sat 27th March at Galloways, Howick Park Avenue, Penwortham.   This will also include our Annual General Meeting.  Children will be able to bake healthy foods with the community dieticians team and
Rachel Connor from the Juvenile Diabetic Research Foundation (JDRF) will give a presentation to adults and older children.  Rachel will be travelling all the way from London to answer the following questions;

  1. What is the most promising research into a cure, for Type 1 diabetes?
  2. How much do we know about what leads to type 1 diabetes?  Will it be possible to test for this in the future?
  3. What are the new developments in management of illness and the genetic side to the condition?
  4. How close are we to producing real time blood sugar monitors which are not part of a pump?

We will also be having a presentation by Adele Hoult, a rep from Bayer healthcare.  She will give us a demo of some of their products, including some new software that links to a Nintendo DS which gives points for doing blood sugars and that opens up access to games.

Please can you let Phil know if you are intending to come to the talk or if you are intending for your children to take part in the healthy baking session so that we can provide the correct amount of support and ingredients!  You can contact Phil on 01257 411375 or e-mail him on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
